Fourteen South: education systems consulting and program management for education agencies
The systems an education agency runs on outlast the people who install them.
Fourteen South provides program management and consulting to education agencies on the systems that carry instruction and administration. Student information. Human resources. Curriculum. Our practice leadership has done this work with the same agencies for more than fifteen years.
Most systems fail after the vendor leaves.
An education agency selects a platform, funds an implementation, and trains its staff. Two years later the people who understood the build have moved on, the configuration has drifted from the way the agency actually works, and the institutional knowledge sits with a firm that finished its contract and left.
The technology is rarely the reason these projects fail. Continuity is.
We built this practice around the opposite premise. We stay long enough for the system to become the agency's own, and we plan from the first week for the day we are no longer in the room.
Education agencies, and the people who answer for them.
State and territorial education agencies, school systems, and the platform providers serving them. Our work supports both sides of an agency's obligation: the instructional systems teachers use and the administrative systems that keep the agency funded, staffed, and compliant.
We work with superintendents, directors, and the technology and human resources leadership who carry the operational risk. Our engagements run in years rather than months, because the systems do.
A new firm. A practice with a long memory.
Fourteen South was formed to carry a body of work that has been running far longer than the name has. Our practice leadership has supported education agencies on their core systems for more than fifteen years, through multiple platform generations and several changes of administration.
Continuity is the reason clients keep us. It is also the reason we are careful about how many we take.
Four commitments, and we will hold you to them too.
The technology changes from one engagement to the next. The way we work does not. These are the terms we set at the start, and the terms we ask an agency to hold with us.
We work inside the agency, not around it.
Agency staff know how the work actually gets done, and they are the ones who will run the system after we go. We build with them rather than presenting to them. Nothing we recommend should surprise the people who have to live with it.
We start with what is already running.
Before proposing anything, we document what is in place, what depends on it, and what it would cost to leave. A recommendation that ignores the existing environment is a recommendation for someone else's agency.
We plan for the handover from the first week.
Documentation, training, and internal capability are part of the schedule, not a phase that gets cut when the timeline compresses. The measure of the work is whether the agency can run the system without us.
We are accountable in public.
Status is reported against what was committed, in writing, on a fixed cadence, including the parts that are behind. Agencies answer to boards, legislatures, and the public. We report to the same standard.
Program management, and the systems it is managing.
We are brought in when an agency needs a system selected, replaced, integrated, or rescued, and needs someone accountable for the whole of it rather than a piece.
Program and project management
Scope, schedule, vendors, risk, and reporting across the life of an initiative. A single point of accountability from planning through sustainment.
Student information systems
Selection, migration, integration, and the infrastructure underneath. The system of record for every student an agency serves, treated accordingly.
Human resources and personnel systems
Position control, certification, payroll integration, and the reporting that state and federal requirements depend on.
Curriculum and instructional systems
The platforms teachers use daily, evaluated on whether they hold up in a classroom rather than in a demonstration.
Assessment and procurement support
Requirements definition, market scans, evaluation criteria, and support through procurement. We help agencies buy well, which is usually cheaper than helping them recover.
Implementation and sustainment
Deployment, training, documentation, and the handover that makes the system survivable without us.
Fifteen years in the same rooms.
Most consulting relationships in this sector are procurement-length. A firm wins an award, delivers a scope, and moves on. The agency is left holding a system it did not build and cannot fully explain, and the next firm starts over.
Our practice leadership has spent more than fifteen years on the other side of that pattern, working with the same education agencies across multiple platform generations, several changes of administration, and the ordinary turnover that any public institution absorbs. That continuity is not a marketing position. It is the reason the work holds.
Fourteen South is the firm those engagements now run through.

Ann began her career in the classroom as a secondary mathematics teacher, a foundation that has shaped every role since. Over three decades she has served as a high school principal, associate superintendent, university faculty member, and senior education strategist, supervising more than 56 doctoral dissertations and chairing the accreditation team for educational administration licensure. She was named North Carolina Principal of the Year and NASSP National High School Principal of the Year, has secured more than $25 million in research and education grants, and authored a U.S. Department of Education model for one-to-one technology deployment. Her work reaches well beyond domestic systems, including a U.S. project-manager role on large-scale, AI-driven education technology deployments in global markets, and delegate study tours to Finland and Australia.
The same people, engagement after engagement.
Our teams are assembled from practitioners who have worked together on education systems for years, not staffed from a bench for a single award. Agencies get the people they met in the first meeting, through to handover.
Fourteen degrees south.
The firm takes its name from a coordinate in the South Pacific. It is where the practice is anchored, and it reflects how we work: close to the agencies we serve, in their time zone, on their calendar, present for the parts of the work that do not fit in a scheduled call.

Most of our engagements begin with a question an agency has not been able to get a straight answer to. If you have one, send it.
Received. You will hear from us within two business days.
